It’s Day 4 of our Advent Calendar and we will be donating £250 to the mental health charity “Heads Together”.
Heads Together is a mental health initiative spearheaded by The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry, which combines a campaign to tackle stigma and change the conversation on mental health with fundraising for a series of innovative new mental health services.
Significant progress has been made to tackle stigma surrounding mental health in recent decades, but it still remains a key issue driven by negative associations, experience and language. Through this campaign, Their Royal Highnesses have built on the great work that is already taking place across the country, to ensure that people feel comfortable with their everyday mental well being, feel able to support their friends and families through difficult times, and that stigma no longer prevents people getting the help they need.
In April 2017 Heads Together was the charity of the year for the Virgin Money London Marathon, which became the first Marathon for Mental Health raising the profile of this important issue and inspiring people to talk about their own mental health for the first time.
It’s day 3 of our Advent Calendar and we will be donating £150 to the organisation “Smile International” to help in the good work they do.
“Turning tears into Smiles”
Smile International is passionate about helping to relieve suffering and poverty around the world through our FEED programmes – Feeding, Educating, Empowering and Developing. We are dedicated to giving hope to those in need and providing people with an opportunity to develop emotionally, physically, socially and spiritually.
We are invested in transforming whole lives – body and soul – of the most vulnerable people by long-term development projects, regardless of religion or nationality as well as work in effective partnerships to make a real difference to those in need.
Our vision is to see people and their lives transformed, for them to become self-sustainable, empowered and encouraged.
There are so many needs and desperate situations around the world but if we can help even one person, by turning tears into smiles, that’s what it’s all about.
Scotty’s Little Soldiers is a charity dedicated to supporting children & young people who have lost a parent whilst serving in the British Armed Forces.
Inspired by the experience of Army widow Nikki Scott following the death of her husband Cpl Lee Scott in Afghanistan in 2009, the charity is currently providing assistance to hundreds of bereaved Forces children around the UK.
Support offered to the children includes fun activities such as holiday breaks and group events, personal development assistance through educational grants and access to professional bereavement counselling
To start off our Advent Calendar and to begin the festive season, the members of the club have bought and erected an 18′ Christmas Tree on North Green in Southwold. We hope the residents of Southwold and surrounding area enjoy our gift to the town. Watch out for more Christmas tree news coming soon. Don’t forget to follow the rest of our Advent Calendar over the coming days.
